Welcome to today’s 1:5:10:365 Tip for becoming a better steward for our home and planet.

1:5:10:100 EcoTip: Adding bracing to a garage door can increase the chances the building will be able to weather high winds. Temporary bracing can installed whenever high winds are expected, but designing buildings to withstand these types of forces is even better.

NOAA’s National Hurricane Center has information on retrofit garage door bracing

The Institute of Business and Home Safety has posted their Fortified Home Builders Guide with information for new construction.

LAS Enterprises has a retrofit garage door brace. Once the hardware is installed, the brace can be installed and removed quickly. More information is available at  LAS Enterprises

  1. Does the material a garage door is made of effect it’s wind resistance and durability? Is a wood garage door more wind resistant than an aluminum door?
